Safe, respectful transportationbeyond the curb

Non-emergency medical transportation for patients who need an accessible vehicle and a trained attendant, but not an ambulance. We collect the patient where they are, secure them properly, and hand them over at the other end.

  • Wheelchair-accessible vehicles with trained securement
  • Gurney and bariatric gurney transportation
  • Door-through-door assistance at both ends

Service options

Which one a patient needs usually comes down to how they travel, not what their diagnosis is.

Ambulatory Service

Ambulatory Service is mobility at your front door. People who have difficulties walking are able to be assisted by GMT staff. From the front door to our vehicle a trained GMT staff member will be with our clients every step of the way. GMT vehicles are comfortable, clean, odor free and undergo regular service checks to ensure the highest level of comfort and safety as our clients are transported to their destination. Our vision is to provide quality access to quality care.

Wheelchair Services

General Medical provides exceptional wheelchair transportation to fit the needs of our clientele. General Medical vehicles are equipped with electric wheelchair ramps and lifts that allows easy entry and exit from our vehicles. GMT can also provide its wheelchair bound clients with an EMT, if necessary, to ensure the highest level of care.

Stretcher Services

Patients in need of transportation that require the use of a stretcher can also be transported by General Medical. Our vehicles are equipped with gurneys that are certified to be safe by the American Medical Association (AMA).

What to expect

The same sequence every time, so nothing about the day is a surprise.

  1. Request

Tell us the pickup address, the destination, the date and time, and how the patient travels — seated or lying down.

  2. Confirmation

We confirm the trip, the vehicle type and the window, and tell you what the patient should have ready.

  3. Pickup

The crew arrives at the residence or unit and collects the patient inside, not at the curb.

  4. Securement

The wheelchair or gurney is secured to the vehicle and the patient is belted before the vehicle moves.

  5. Handoff

The patient is taken in to the clinic, unit or home and handed to whoever is receiving them.

Comfort and safety

  • Accessible vehicles maintained and inspected on a documented schedule
  • Crews trained in securement, safe transfers and patient handling
  • Patients are told what is happening before it happens
  • Clear communication with families and receiving staff
  • Dignity treated as part of the service, not an extra

Common questions

Do you help with stairs?

Tell us about stairs when you book. What is possible depends on the number of steps, the patient's weight and mobility, and the equipment required, and we would rather plan for it than discover it at the door.

Can someone travel with the patient?

Usually one companion can travel, subject to the vehicle assigned. Ask when booking so we can plan for the seat.

How are bariatric transports arranged?

Bariatric transport needs specific equipment and additional staffing, so it is scheduled rather than dispatched on demand. Give us the details when you call and we will confirm what we can do.

What are your scheduling windows?

We give you a pickup window rather than a single minute, because traffic and the previous trip both affect arrival. The window is confirmed when the trip is booked.

Is this service covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on the patient's benefit, authorization requirements, medical necessity and the payer. We will tell you what we know about the pathway, but we do not promise coverage. Availability and coverage vary by service, location, clinical need, authorization, and payer requirements.
